Software Development: Is it a good career?
As the world becomes more connected to apps, programs, and technology, it is clear how important software developers are for how society functions. You can buy anything at your local corner shop. There are many networks, individual scripts, and a variety of databases that can be compared to each other to ensure that you can get that donut.
Every activity we do today has a program behind. Our entertainment. Our trains. Our restaurants. It would be difficult to find one example that hasn’t been touched in some way by a programme, at any point along the process.
Software development is a viable career. We would have to say “Yes.” Although it is hard work, you can learn to program and think logically. But, ultimately, it’s a stable and well-paid career. It is a career that isn’t likely to change anytime soon.
Let’s take another look at the numbers.
Software Development: Is it a good career?
It’s highly sought after
We analyzed the data to determine which tech jobs are in most demand right now, June 2022. Our research shows that nine of the top 10 most in-demand tech jobs require some level of coding. Seven of the top 10 jobs in tech include software and web development.
Python alone has seen a jump of 41,000 jobs in 2017, to more than 73,000 by 2020. This trend is true for all top languages: they are constantly growing. It’s enough to learn a few programming languages to get you started.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2021, there were approximately 165 million jobs. This number is expected to rise by 25 percent when 2029 rolls around. This is a 3 percent increase in the USBLS’s preCOVID growth forecasts. This is also a huge increase compared to the average 4 percent growth rate across all industries.
Software development is a great career choice. There are many opportunities available. You can work in any industry and live anywhere, although salaries are higher in California. The barrier to entry is also relatively low.
The Salaries Are Higher Than Most
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary is $109,000. Even entry-level positions in software development often pay more than $60,000, with some even going higher depending on where they are located.
This is more than twice the amount that the Social Security Administration reported as an average salary in 2018, which was $50,000. Software development is a lucrative field that offers higher salaries than the national average.
It’s a stable career
Many people were affected by the pandemic. As people stayed inside, businesses struggled to stay open. While other industries have been hard hit (4.1 percent unemployment to 13.5%), Forbes reports that computer jobs have actually fallen in unemployment. They have dropped from 3 to 2.5 percent.
Why? It’s possible to work remotely as a software developer. Companies are also being forced to find new ways to interact with customers. Technology is essential to stay connected. Even our weekly shop requires a program in this climate.
Software development is about solving problems. This is why the industry is more in demand when natural disasters occur. This makes it a stable career.
It is important to remember that working in a start-up or growing company presents unique challenges. Even if your code skills are exceptional, you may be laid off if the company is trying to achieve more difficult growth metrics. Despite this, any programming experience is a good experience. There will always be thousands open positions for talented software developers.
You Can Choose Your Industry
Software development is a necessity in every industry, as we’ve already mentioned. This means you have the freedom to choose what type of work you want. Do you enjoy finance? They need developers. Enjoy games? These games can be programmed. Do you like fashion? Sports? All of them require booking systems, websites and apps, as well as internal software.
Software developers are essential for every industry. Oral-B’s app helps children brush their teeth in the right time. Apps with branding are becoming more popular as companies seek to build trust and retain customers.
Sometimes it’s not as direct as Oral-B. In 2012, Metro trains in Australia launched a game called Dumb Ways to Die. The whole point of the game was to raise awareness about train safety. A strange solution to a problem? Sure. It was viral, and it wouldn’t have been possible without software developers. All of this doesn’t take into account the many internal programs companies use to perform their daily tasks.
You Can Work for Yourself
Software development is not just for corporations. Once you have gained experience, you can create your own software and apps. Yo
